Juan Manuel Lopez (30-1, 27 KO) will fight Mike Oliver (25-2, 8 KO) on October 1, 2011 Saturday at Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Featherweight sensation Juanma Lopez returns to his native Puerto Rico in search of another title. The hard-punching 28-year-old will battle the determined Mike Oliver, of Hartford, Connecticut, who’s only lost twice in his career. Oliver, as others have noted, is a skilled fighter. BLH feature writer emeritus and boxing historian Ted Sares recently said that Oliver has the fastest hands he’s ever seen. His only problem has been a shaky chin. Against Lopez, that’s not great news, but it’s not a bad bounce-back fight either.
The card will be available in the United States via Integrated Sports PPV, but it’s a pure stab at picking up some cash from the Puerto Rican audience as there’s a lot of competition that night. HBO has the Martinez vs Barker show, and Top Rank Live that night will have Nishioka vs Marquez, too.
