No.2 ranked WBC contender Rafael Marquez (40-6, 36 KO’s) will be taking on World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (38-4-3, 24 KO’s) of Tokyo, Japan on October 1st at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Marquez previously held the WBC super bantamweight title from March to August 2007 capturing it when he defeated Israel Vazquez on March 3, 2007. He subsequently lost it to Vasquez in their second fight on August 4, 2007. Nishioka has held the title since December 2008 when Vazquez vacated it. Nishioka will be making his 7th title defense when he steps into the ring with Marquez on October 1st. The winner of Nishioka vs Marquez could possible face Nonito Donaire.
